National HIV Testing Day

June 27, 2025

Every year on June 27, National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) encourages everyone to get tested for HIV and take charge of their health. Knowing your HIV status is an important step in preventing the spread of the virus and starting treatment early if needed.

Why It Matters

About 1 in 8 people in the U.S. with HIV don’t know they have it. Early testing helps individuals get care sooner and live longer, healthier lives. It also helps prevent transmission to others.

2025 Theme: “Level Up Your Self-Love: Check Your Status”

This year’s theme promotes HIV testing as a form of self-care and self-respect. It aims to reduce stigma and encourage open conversations about health and wellness.

Who Should Get Tested?

  • Everyone ages 13–64 at least once

  • People at higher risk, like those with multiple sexual partners or who inject drugs once a year or more

  • Pregnant women early in pregnancy

Testing is quick, confidential, and often free. You can get tested at clinics, pharmacies, or even at home with a self-test kit.

Take Action

  • Get tested and encourage others to do the same

  • Share awareness on social media (#HIVTestingDay)

  • Support local events offering testing and education

Getting tested for HIV is a simple act that protects your health and others. This June 27, take control and know your status.
