World Cancer Day: How Clinical Research Brings Hope

February 6, 2026

Raising Awareness and Saving Lives#

World Cancer Day, observed every year on February 4, raises awareness about cancer and highlights the importance of prevention, early detection, and access to effective treatments. It is a day to support patients, families, and caregivers while promoting actions that can save lives.

Global statistics#

According to the American Cancer Society’s 2026 Cancer Statistics, approximately 2,114,850 new cancer diagnoses are projected in the United States this year alone, that’s about 5,800 new cases every day and 626,140 deaths from cancer are expected in 2026. Despite this burden, there is positive news: the five-year relative survival rate for all cancers combined has reached 70% for people diagnosed between 2015 and 2021, reflecting decades of progress in treatment and care.

Globally, nearly 20 million new cancer cases were diagnosed in 2025, and health experts warn that without continued action, the annual number could climb further in the coming decades. Research shows that about 4 in 10 cancer cases worldwide are linked to preventable risk factors from tobacco use to poor diet and environmental exposure, highlighting the enormous potential of prevention and early detection strategies.

Why Cancer Research Matters#

Cancer research is essential in improving how we prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. Through clinical trials, researchers test new therapies, study existing treatments, and explore better ways to care for patients. Many of today’s cancer treatments are available thanks to individuals who participated in clinical research.

Indago Research’s Commitment to Clinical Trials#
